The University of Kansas recently finished the 2007-2008 NDT/CEDA debate season ranked first place in varsity NDT points. We had the team of Nate Johnson and Chris Stone in the final round of the national tournament of the Cross Examination Debate Association. They were the top seed after the preliminary rounds with a record of 8-0. Another Kansas team, Brett Bricker and Andrew Jennings, were also the second seed with an 8-0 record of their own. Kansas posted the only undefeated teams in the pre-lims of the CEDA national tournament and is the only school to have advanced 6 teams to the elimination rounds. Kansas had three competitors earn a top 5 speaker award (Johnson 2, Stone 4, Jennings 5) and one more in the top 10 (Bricker 8)
At the National Debate Tournament Bricker and Jennings were awarded a top five national ranking for the season for the second consecutive year and, for the second year in a row, finished in the quarter finals. Nate Johnson repeated his octa-final appearance from the prior year as well. Brett Bricker was awarded the third speaker, Andrew Jennings finished 8th.
The outstanding year netted Kansas' debate team mounds of good press and a trip to visit Kansas Governor Sebelius with the national champion basketball team and the Orange Bowl champion football team. For those curious to see some of the good press, look here:
